NEW BUSINESS:
Before Lindsey passed the gavel to Karen Brown, she enthusiastically thanked the board this year. Lindsey explained that being President mostly consisted of delegating which only works when you have a reliable, effective board. The board this year has been amazing in both ways. So huge hug of gratitude to them.  Lindsey said “Thank you to Karen Brown for keeping all the moving parts of the hostess chart straight; to Maggie Fisher for keeping us up to date on the Speech School and Caroline Davis for organizing our 90th Anniversary party at the Speech School; to Louise Moore and Mildred Spalding keeping us informed on the quarry garden; to Blain Allen, Katie Bockstedt and Jennifer Hill our recording secretaries for diligently taking notes at our meetings; to Nell Mitchell our corresponding sec. who sends out our monthly meeting invitations along with all announcements; to Jo Phelps who kept our bank accounts straight; to Leslie Morgan who kept our attendance records and collected our dues. To Mary Ella Hill and Jinny Keough for the wonderful, varied, interesting programs. Additionally I must thank Shayla Rumly for hosting the new member luncheon last fall and to Esther Garges and Lois Yates who mentored last year’s new members and guided them through the Cathedral Antique Show entry.  So as you can see keeping Mimosa running truly is a group effort!”

Lindsey went on to say, “The nominating committee consisting of the board, Lisa Hinson and Shelby Drinkard met at a lovely luncheon graciously hosted by Caroline Davis at the Swan Coach House and selected next year’s board under Karen Brown.”

Lindsey passed the gavel to Karen with best wishes and tons of support for her presidency.

Rob graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1996 with a degree in Economics and received his MBA from Emory’s Goizueta Business School.

Rob introduced the group to the history and mission of the Atlanta Beltline project. He pointed out that it is a loop of old railroad tracks that connects 45 neighborhoods in Atlanta’s Fulton county.  He mentioned that the office is located in the Stoveworks building; where potbellied stoves used to be manufactured.

He suggested that interested members take the bus tour of the Beltline and corresponding neighborhoods. It is a 3-hour tour that is very informative and entertaining. If the club is interested, we can arrange a private tour.

He was excited to announce the Southside trail will be opening this summer. It will connect the West and East side trails. It will not be paved yet; but should be navigable by bicycle and foot. They still need funding to get it paved; as well as the trails that extend to the north in the Buckhead area. He directed us to look at beltline.org/support for more information.

John Becker is the Partnership’s Engagement Coordinator. He assists the Program Manager with management of the bus, bike, and walking tour programs; as well as volunteer and event management, and marketing and communications.

John led the club on a walking tour of the beltline from the Beltline Partnership Office, south to Dekalb Avenue and Krog Street tunnel.

Congratulations to Betty Glenn who joined Mimosa in 1968. She is now an honorary member. Elizabeth Spalding has moved from Associate to Sustainer and Emily Jordan and Caroline Millican have moved to Associate.

Lori Kennedy has resigned. She sends her thanks to all the members for great fun and memories.

A friendly reminder to respond to meeting the invitations. I know it is an extra step when you reply that you are coming, to make a note that you are staying for lunch, however it is critical for the hostesses. A few days out the last count was 49 coming but only 19 staying for lunch. Hard to guess! We have looked into other options for replying, but they are way more expensive. So please RSVP and note if you are staying for lunch, otherwise we assume you are not.

Oakland Cemetery will hold a “Green Elephant” sale to coincide with their annual plant sale April 11-12. They are looking for donations of gently used and vintage garden items like gardening books, containers, outdoor furniture and yard art. Details are on their website. (A great way to recycle all the garden stuff you bought but no longer need!)
