Welcome Letter 25/26

2025/2026 Welcome from
Louise Moore

September 22, 2025

Dear Ladies of The Mimosa Garden Club,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 Mimosa Garden Club Season.  We are going to have a great year! My name is Louise Moore and I’m thrilled and honored to serve as your 97th President. I trust everyone had a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing all of you at our first meeting.  A big thank you to Sophie Mason, Ashley Whitehurst, and Beverly Briggs for hosting our first meeting tomorrow, September 23rd.

A great big THANK YOU to Kendrick Williams for her enthusiastic and outstanding leadership as President last year. We are grateful to her and her fellow board members for a successful year. I’d like to extend a personal thank you to Kendrick for all of her assistance, patience, and support as she has helped me take on this new role. As we’d all agree, she is a delight to work with and I have some big shoes to fill.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to our new members Caroline Willis, Taylor Custis, Sally Griffith, Charlotte Few, and Kim Nalley. A couple of weeks ago Wawa Hines and Rae Knox hosted a lovely luncheon in their honor at Rae’s home. The food was delicious, the flowers, done by Rae, were so beautiful and everyone enjoyed welcoming our new ladies to Mimosa. It was the perfect way to start our year and formally welcome them. Please take a moment tomorrow to introduce yourself if you haven’t already had a chance to meet them.

The start of the season means it’s time for annual dues. Brittany Hill and Molly West have graciously agreed to collect membership dues. As a reminder our annual dues are $100. Please make checks payable to Mimosa Garden Club, and please pay by December 1, 2025 to avoid a late fee. As a reminder, Honorary Members do not pay Annual Dues. You can pay at the meetings or mail a check to Brittany Hill.

As for our year ahead, Blain Allen and Nell Mitchel have worked so hard this summer putting together an exciting year of programs. We also have a few extra events that only come along every other year and every six years. I’ve included those in our meetings listed below. Of course this is also a PARTY year, so mark your calendar for May 6th, 2026. The board also decided a fun holiday get together in December could be fun for everyone. We can discuss this at the next meeting. A busy year ahead, no doubt!

Mimosa Garden Club 2025–2026 Program Schedule

Similar to our meetings in the past, you will receive an email invitation via Punchbowl. Please help the hostesses plan for lunch and seating arrangements by submitting a timely response and indicate if you will be staying for lunch. The hostesses make every effort to make our meetings comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you hostesses!

Please visit the directory on our website (mimosagardenclub.com) to make sure your contact information is up to date. You can update your contact information by logging on and clicking on “member profile” underneath your photo. Once you update your information, please remember to click “update” at the bottom to save your new information. If you have questions, please email the one and only, Jennifer Hill. Jenniferfrazierhill@gmail.com Jennifer continues to step up and help our Club with her time and expertise in an area that I know I personally could never begin to tackle. Thank you, Jennifer.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to serve on the Board this year and to all of last year’s Board members. Many hands make light work and it takes a lot of hands to keep our garden club running and improving each year. My sincerest gratitude to everyone! (Note – this may show up out of whack on your email!)

Here is our 2025-2026 Board

As a relatively new member myself, I know I have a lot to learn about “The Basics of Gardening.” The Board and I discussed this last week and it seems like there are a lot of us that would like to learn more about gardening. Good news is that there are a lot of you who know a lot about gardening. This year, we will be setting aside 5-10 minutes at each meeting for a “Basics of Gardening” discussion. Each month, we’ll have one simple topic (for example, the first one will be the “best gardening tip you’ve ever received.”)

Members are encouraged to share something you’ve learned or would like to learn. If you’re shy and do not have something to say, you don’t have to. The goal is simply to make it fun and easy for everyone to contribute and for all of us to learn something new. We’ll go over the topics for the year at the first meeting.

For tomorrow, please come with your best gardening tip! Share that one piece of advice that changed the way you garden or something that would be helpful for the new members to learn. Again, it’s supposed to be fun and educational. No pressure!

In closing, I joined Mimosa in 2013 and love attending alongside Tricia Allen (my Mom), Parker Tekin (my sister), Sally Allen (my aunt) and Blain Allen (my cousin, well my cousin’s wife but I like to call her my cousin.) I know my grandmother, Louise Allen, would be thrilled to know we still have such a wonderful group of amazing women that continue to garden, learn, and volunteer together each month!  We’re coming up on our 100th year and we need to continue to make the previous generations proud and lay the groundwork for the next 100 years. I look forward to doing that with all of you.

It’s going to be a great year!

Sincerely,

Louise Moore
